Sierra Fish Plants in Eastern Waters Continue

Following a huge loss in fish at three hatchery services in the western Sierra and Southern Colorado come early july, the California Office of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) has executed a current stocking plan to keep adding trout into waters which can be well-liked by anglers.

Waterways in CDFW's South Coast Region and Inland Deserts Region are usually stocked with trout from Mojave River Hatchery, Dark Steel Hatchery and Fish Rises Hatchery, but this year, fish at all three facilities were contaminated by a bacterial outbreak. On July 20, CDFW reported that intensive effort to treat the fish had been lost, and pathologists encouraged euthanizing 3.2 million fish and decontaminating the features in order to end the distribute of Lactococcus garvieae, which is similar to streptococcus.

"Euthanization was not the end result we expected, but after exhausting all therapies, it was evident that clearing the raceways, sterilizing the services and beginning around was the sole choice," claimed Jay Rowan, CDFW's Statewide Hatchery Plan Manager.
